Tomorrow, sixty-five-year-old JD Spor from the sleepy little mountain town of Norwood, Colorado will have surgery to correct his neck. Once he’s recovered, he’ll have another surgery to begin repairing his back. He is looking forward to the procedures because as he stated, “I’ve lived with the pain long enough.”
Like many truck drivers who are both retired and actively working, JD’s back and neck issues are a direct result of driving. Years ago, when JD started out in the industry, he was behind the wheel of a massive logging truck. “And it was a doozy,” he explained. The old logging truck was as rough and tumble as they get, tossing him to and fro. The gear shift was even worse because it would stick. “Going up and down the narrow, steep mountain backroads, I had to put [...]

It’s a dream come true for some, a real-life sci-fi movie in the making. But, it’s a nightmare for others, mainly the real-live truckers who have kept our nation moving for decades.
I a recent report, the highly acclaimed (and trusted) news reporting and broadcasting entity, Sixty Minutes, covered a highly controversial but very real subject – driverless trucks. The problem for those who are not fans of the new step in technology is that the automated trucking is inevitable. That reality is sending signals of impending doom to the thousands of truckers who are at risk of losing their livelihood if the endeavor becomes a reality. And…it will. Whether it will be a successful one is all that is left up in the air.
What many Americans (including truck drivers) [...]

Check out this throwback1920 dump truck tipper! The first dump trucks with motors were invented in 1910 by small equipment companies like Galion Buggy Company, Lauth-Juergens, and Fruehauf Trailer Corporation. Shortly afterward, hydraulic dump beds came about, thanks to Wood Hoist Company.
Old-fashioned versions of dump trucks have been around even longer, well before diesel or gasoline engines graced the earth. Horse-drawn two-wheel carts were commonly employed around the railroad and in coal mines to haul and dump material. The first farm dump truck dates back to 1896 when Thornycroft developed a steam dust cart in Europe.
Dump Trucks became very popular during World War 1 because they were in huge demand. When Fruehaul introduced hydraulics into the picture in the early 1920s, the “Bathtub Dump” became a big [...]

From the riots in Chicago to the raging wildfires in Colorado and California, truckers are being tested and patience is wearing thin. The trucking industry has had its fair share of roadblocks and detours lately.
When the National Forest Service recently shut down I-70 in southwestern Colorado due to the Grizzly Creek Fire, truckers struggled to get their loads from one end of Glenwood Canyon to the other.
The closure was announced on Monday, August 10, shutting down a 30-mile stretch of a mountainous highway with few viable alternative routes. Two of the would-be rerouting options, Crooked Creek Pass and Forest Service Road 400, are closed due to the near 20,000 acres of blazing forest.
“Truckers are familiar with the unpaved, narrow roads that some are taking,” stated Colorado native truck driver, Sam Dinsmore. “That spells trouble every time.”

It was recently reported that the trucking and freight industries are faring better than most fields of business in the recent troubled times. While COVID-19 has brought much of the nation’s economy to an all-time low, demand for supplies, like medicine and food, has helped the trucking and freight industries. Now that truckers and freight delivery personnel are adjusting to the changes, it is projected the two industries will come out even better in the upcoming months.
Numbers Don’t LieThe information came with the August 7 jobs report which was released by the Department of Labor. Many in the industry are calling it “encouraging”. A survey taken not long ago by DAT Solutions confirms that the belief the industry will hold its own is universal among drivers, both independent and otherwise, and trucking company [...]

A lot is going on in the trucking world right now because so much is going on in the world! From COVID-19 to protests to defund the police, truckers everywhere are scratching their heads for lack of knowing what else to do. Here are some of the issues facing the trucking industry:
The Trouble with TruckingIt didn’t take long for word to travel among truckers – widespread looting and rioting gone rampant were making downtown un-accessible and…un-safe. If your route included Chicago’s downtown on Monday, August 10, you were out of luck.
It all began on Sunday afternoon with an officer-involved shooting where two citizens were also shot and over 100 protestors went to jail. Thirteen policemen were injured.
Meanwhile, windows were broken and stores were stripped.
